We have a clinical team of 12 Doctors, 1 Advanced Care Practitioner, 3 Practice Nurses, 2 Nurse Associates, 1 Health Care Assistant and 3 Clinical Pharmacists, who are supported by the care navigator team, secretaries, pharmacy technicians and administration staff to ensure our patients receive safe, high quality care.

Dr Ganesh qualified in India. She joined the practice in January 2017 and has special interests in family planning and teaching She is a GP appraiser and is a specialist advisor to the Care Quality Commission

Dr Sarah Hay

Dr Hay joined the practice in October 2009. She has a special interest in palliative care and she has a key role in information governance for the practice. Dr Hay also works for the Humber & North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board as GP Lead for quality and clinical governance

Clare Hedges
Pharm, CDip (Clin Pharm/Clin Ed)
Clare joined the practice in January 2021 as Practice Manager and became managing partner in May 2023. She is a registered pharmacist who previously worked at HDFT for 20 years, managing the cancer, chemotherapy and ITU service provided by the pharmacy department. She has since been a Cancer Services Manager and lead for Quality, Performance and Emergency Planning at the previous Harrogate CCG. She holds a post graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy and Clinical Education and has a passion for staff development and progression. Her clinical interest is palliative care. Outside of work she enjoys travelling with her husband and daughter.

Dr Sarah Peachey

Dr Peachey graduated from the University of Leeds in 2009. She joined the practice as a GP registrar in 2014 and is now a GP Partner. She has particular interest in child and Adult mental health, pain management and carers support.

‘Dr Alzabin graduated from the University of Leeds in 2016 and worked in Emergency Medicine for a number of years before coming to General Practice training in 2020. She joined the practice in April 2024. Dr Alzabin’s areas of interest include women’s health and medical education. Outside of work she enjoys hiking, farms, running, reading and a good cup of Yorkshire Tea’.

Dr Button graduated from Leeds University in 2005 and then qualified as a GP in 2010. He has joined the surgery as a GP Retainer, after having taken a couple of years out of practice to study Psychology. His interests include patients living with mental health conditions, obesity and chronic pain.

Amy Cartwright
Dr Cartwright graduated from the University of Leeds in 2016 after completed a BSc in Applied Health (Primary Care) in 2014 within her training years. She worked as a GP Registrar from 2020-2021 at Spa Surgery before qualifying as a GP, and has stayed on at Spa Surgery as a Salaried GP with a lead role in Cancer Care.

Julie Hamilton
Dr Hamilton graduated from the University of Leeds in 2013 and went on to qualify as a GP in 2020. She joined the practice in January 2022. Dr Hamilton’s areas of interest include women’s health, mental health and joint injections.

Mark Hammatt
MBChB MRCGP
Dr Hammatt qualified from Leeds Medical School in 1990. He joined the practice in 1999 having spent a few years working in Australia. Dr Hammatt plays a key role in supporting and teaching young doctors and undergraduate medical students. He also has a lead role in IT and managing electronic information in the practice.

Lucy Maw
MBBS DRCOG MRCGP DFFP
Dr Maw qualified in 1995 from St George’s Hospital (London). She joined the practice in 2003 and is interested in ear, nose and throat problems, family planning, teenage health and women’s health matters. Dr Maw plays a key role in teaching undergraduate medical students.

Ellyn McCulloch
MBBS, MRCGP, DRCOG, DFSRH, Dip SEM
Dr McCulloch studied at the Middlesex Hospital and UCH in London and qualified in 1989.
Following this Dr McCulloch had house Officer jobs in North Devon and Cumbria. Dr McCulloch returned to North Devon for the next few years to do her GP training .
Since then she has worked as a GP in Cumbria, Lancashire, the Yorkshire Dales, and Harrogate.
Dr McCulloch first came to The Spa Surgery as a locum, and decided to make it her new home.
Outside of work she enjoys singing, skiing, paddle boarding , cycling , and trying to keep fit.
One of the highlights of her career was working at London 2012 as a volunteer. Dr McCulloch has been a GP for almost 30 years and has many varied interests including sports and exercise medicine and women’s health. She enjoys working with medical sturdents in the practice which keeeps her on her toes!

Jessica Prew

Dr Prew qualified from the University of Nottingham in 2018 and joined Spa Surgery in 2024. Her areas of interest include Women’s Health & Medical Education. Outside of work she enjoys horse riding and yoga

Zandra Quinn
BMSc Hons in Forensic Medicine and Law, MBChB (1995 Dundee), DRCOG, DFFP
Dr Quinn joined Spa Surgery in 2024, having worked in other local GP practices. She has also worked as a Forensic Medical Examiner for North Yorkshire Police, and also as a GP in various prison settings. She has recently finished working as a Specialist Frailty GP with the Hospital at Home team at Harrogate District Hospital. Dr Quinn enjoys the variety of challenges general practice offers, and is enjoying supervising and teaching the medical students on placement at the surgery.

Michel Zar
BSc, MBBS, MRCGP
Dr. Zar earned his Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from UCLA before completing his medical degree in the Netherlands. He received extensive international training in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery and worked as a Specialty Doctor in Yorkshire before transitioning to General Practice. His clinical expertise includes musculoskeletal medicine, joint injections, minor surgery, and lifestyle medicine. Fluent in Dutch, Farsi, and Spanish, he is dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate care and fostering meaningful connections with patients from diverse backgrounds. Dr Hopkinson qualified from Glasgow University in 1995 and completed her GP training in 2003. She has worked for many years in community contraception and sexual health clinics alongside her GP work and joined the practice as a regular GP locum in 2023.

Suzi Morris
BSC, MSC
Suzi joined the clinical team on 1 March 2018 as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner. She is a Registered Paramedic and Non-Medical Prescriber, holding a Master of Science in Practice Development: Enhancing Paramedic Practice (Merit, 2017) and a Bachelor of Science in Paramedic Science (First Class Honours, 2013).
Suzi provides urgent care and minor illness clinics within the Practice. In addition to her clinical role, she also serves as the Freedom to Speak Up Guardian and Basic Life Support (BLS) Trainer, promoting a culture of openness, wellbeing, and continuous professional development across the team

Niamh Thompson
Clinical Pharmacist
Niamh qualified as a pharmacist from the University of Bradford in 2003 and subsequently completed a post graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy from the University of Bradford in 2006. She has also undertaken the independent prescribing qualification at the University of Leeds in 2009. Niamh worked in NHS hospitals as a clinical pharmacist for 20 years before moving to working in primary care in 2023
Eleanor Forkin

Ellie qualified as a pharmacist from Liverpool John Moore’s University in 2017. Ellie has a postgraduate diploma in Clinical Pharmacy from the University of Manchester in 2020 and has also undertaken her prescribing qualification from the University of Huddersfield in 2022 with a focus on antidepressant medication. Ellie has a background of community pharmacy but has been working in a GP setting for 4 years now
Paul Golightly
Clinical Pharmacist
Paul qualified as a pharmacist in 2005 after completing his degree at the University of Bath and his pre-registration training. He worked for nearly 20yrs in a range of specialties at Harrogate Hospital completing a postgraduate diploma in 2008 and an Independent Prescribing qualification in 2017, both from the University of Leeds. He started working in the GP setting when he joined the practice in Jan 2025
Lorna Scahill-Butterfield
Pharmacy Technician
Lorna qualified as a pharmacy technician in 2009 with the NPA and as an accuracy checking technician in 2017. Lorna has previously worked in community pharmacy for 18 years in various roles most recently including Pharmacy Manager and accuracy checking technician. Lorna has now been working in primary care for 3 years.

Steph started working at Spa Surgery in September 2022 as a Care Navigator. She has now completed her cross sector training with Cohens Chemist and the Spa Surgery to become a accredited Pharmacy Technician.

Hannah Booth
Lead Practice Nurse
Hannah graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Adult Nursing from the University of Leeds in 2015. She began her nursing career in Vascular Surgery before gaining further experience in Accident & Emergency and Intensive Care.
Hannah joined Spa Surgery in February 2018. She delivers a wide range of core primary care nursing services and leads the nursing team. Her specialist areas include the management of chronic conditions such as respiratory diseases and diabetes

Lauren Champion
Practice Nurse
Lauren is a newly qualified nurse who joined the GP surgery in October 2024. She studied nursing at Leeds Beckett University and has developed a strong skill set in various areas of patient care. Lauren is trained in wound management, administering injections, and supporting patients with diabetes alongside other general nursing skills.

Hannah Molesworth
Practice Nurse
Qualified with BSc (Hons) in Adult Nursing in 2011 from University of York and worked in renal and gastric medicine and the Emergency Department at York before joining Spa Surgery in 2021. Hannah currently specialises in wound care and management of chronic diseases, including Diabetes.

Alicia Di Virgilio
Nurse Associate
Alicia was previously a Health Care Assistant at Spa Surgery, completing her Nurse Associate training in March 2024. Alicia plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care within the practice. The role contributes to the core work of nursing, freeing up registered nurses to focus on more complex clinical care. Working as part of our multidisciplinary team, providing hands-on clinical care while supporting patients with their ongoing health and wellbeing needs. Alicia assists with a wide range of tasks, including health checks, wound care, childhood vaccinations, phlebotomy, blood pressure checks, injections, long-term condition monitoring, and supporting patients to manage their own health. Alicia works closely with GPs, Practice Nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that patients receive safe, effective, and compassionate care in line with national standards.

Practice Team
The Practice Team provide Care Navigation and medicines management support, administering repeat prescription requests, answering general enquiries, supporting patients and providing the initial appointment triage service to ensure that our patients are directed to the most appropriate Clinician first.
Mowbray Square Primary Care Network
Our practice team are supported by a number of clinical and non-clinical colleagues employed by the primary care network (formed from the 3 practices within Mowbray Square Medical Centre) These include : – First Contact Physio – Pharmacy Technician – Health Care Support Worker – 2 Social Prescribing Link Workers.
MSMC Shared Clinical Admin Team
The Shared Clinical Admin Team provide administration support to all 3 practices within Mowbray Square Medical Centre. Patient registrations, deductions and recalls for long term conditions and adhoc tests are administered by this team.
MSMC Shared Data Quality Team
The Data Quality Team provides coding and document management support to all 3 practices within Mowbray Square Medical Centre. They process clinical correspondence on to electronic patient records and provide summarising administration ensuring that all new patient records are coded accurately when patients register at the practices.
MSMC Shared Medical Secretary Team
The Medical Secretaries process patient referrals to other health services and provide general secretarial administration support for all 3 practices within Mowbray Square Medical Centre.
Mental Health Practitioners – Sophie Oliver and Philip Elmer
- Sophie Oliver – I am a mental health Nurse who is employed by Tees Esk and Wear Valley mental health trust to work within GP surgeries in order to support people with their mental health in the earlier stages. As a Mental health Practitioner at the surgery I work with patients who are starting to struggle with their mental health for any number of reasons. I then work with the patient to make necessary lifestyle changes and look at resources in the local area such as counselling which may be of use to them. I also support patients with starting them on medication when this is a treatment the patient decides they want to try.
- Philip Elmer – I qualified with BSc (hons) in Adult Mental Health in 2017 from the University of Essex. I worked in Mental Health Inpatient wards, secondary mental health care in Essex before being employed by Tees Esk and Wear Valley Mental Heath Trust in 2024.
Social Prescriber – Penny Holdsworth
At times we all may need a little help to overcome some of life’s challenges and changes. The Social Prescribing team are here to support you during this time. We can find ways for you to avoid being isolated, take steps to improve your health or discover opportunities to develop more interests including social groups and volunteering.
We can also support with difficulties such as housing problems, claiming benefits and applying for a bus pass or blue badge.
We will spend time with you to work out what is important to you and what you want to achieve. Together we will develop a plan that will support you to take the steps needed to achieve your goals.
