Do I need ID to register?
Anyone in England can register with a GP surgery. It’s free to register. You do not need proof of address or immigration status, ID or an NHS number.
Do I need proof of address?
No. You do not need proof of address to register. We may ask for your address so we can check whether you live within our practice area.
Do I need an NHS number?
No. You do not need an NHS number to register. If you know it, it can help us find your medical records more easily. You can use the NHS website to find your NHS Number.
Do I need proof of immigration status?
No. You do not need proof of immigration status to register with a GP practice.
How long does registration take?
The online form usually takes around 15 minutes to complete. You will be informed if your registration was successful within 1 to 5 working days of the practice receiving your details.
Can I register if I am already registered with another GP?
Yes. You can change GP practice. You do not need to tell your current GP practice, as they will be informed automatically once your registration is approved.
